The labor room comes alive
Soap lathering, instruments clinking
Metamorphosis
A delivery room being born
Bed goes up
Rubber gloves snapped on
Commands and encouragement
Banter flies
The whirlwind happened so fast
And you were in my arms
Just as I had seen, beauty
In all my dreams
The third time in my life
Your father, your brother, and you
Words and thoughts
Could not encompass love
Tears spill over our mingling cries
So tiny and fragile, unexpected
Hello little son, I am momma
We’ve been waiting for you

30

Starin down the barrel
30 is locked and loaded
Life is pulling back the hammer
Aimin right between the eyes
No lookin away
Not a tremor in this body
No stench of fear rising
Square my shoulders back
Go ahead
Bring it on
Hit me with your best shot
I can take it

“Winds-day”

A hurricane or tropical storm
Which, I’m not sure
But my yard is swimming
In its leftover rain
On the highway to the doc
My impenetrable suv
Tossed around in the gusts
Like hotwheels in Johns hands
Soaking wet we hurry inside
One more day and school is done
A bottle and nap for the babe
Lunch and steaming cups of tea
Wellies stand hopefull
For an afternoon romp
Forts on standby
The cure for cabin fever
Water tight here
Books and clean sheets
Birthdays to plan
Never a dull moment
